Wizards has planted four flags in the 2027 calendar, and it’s a genuinely interesting mix: an underwater plane fans have wanted for years, a kaiju-versus-mechs slugfest, a beloved plane getting its own set, and Marvel going full gothic horror.

The announced calendar

Wizards is calling 2027 the “Year of the Gathering,” with three Magic Multiverse sets and three Universes Beyond sets, alternating through the year. Here’s every release slot on Wizards’ official timeline:

Nauctis: The Sunken Realm (February 5)

The year opens on a brand-new plane, and it’s one players have asked about for years: a full undersea realm. Wizards describes an endless ocean, vast cities beneath the waves, and gods who command the currents, with merfolk, seals, homarids and a few human adventurers caught between two warring kingdoms. It’s the debut of a world rather than a return, which is always a good sign for lore people.

Marvel: Darkhold Destiny (April 9)

The first Universes Beyond set of 2027 was announced October 10, and it’s a swing: an all-new original story set in the Marvel Universe’s arcane corner, crafted with Marvel for Magic. Expect Hela, Magik (stepping in via her stepping disks, naturally), Gargantos, and a cast of devils, sorcerers and vampire-hunting vampires.

Collector-relevant details from the announcement: the story ties into a new Marvel comic from Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly (digital February 2027, physical April 2027) that introduces a brand-new character. The product line includes Commander decks, Scene Boxes and new Booster Fun treatments. Preorders are open now at local game stores and online sellers.

Kamigawa: Titanbreach (June 4)

The pitch is beautifully simple: an Omenpath opens above neon-lit Towashi and a huge chunk of Ikoria crashes through it. Kamigawa’s mechs versus Ikoria’s monsters, in what Wizards calls “Magic on a scale you’ve never seen before.” Neon Dynasty’s cyberpunk look colliding with the plane that brought us mutate is either the best idea Magic’s had in years or the most fun one, possibly both.

Zhalfir (October 1)

The Multiverse side of the year closes with Zhalfir getting its own set, complete with Teferi Akosa’s return. Wizards calls it “Magic’s take on the afrofantasy genre” and promises “Magic: The Gathering as you remember it.” One for the longtime fans.

What we don’t know yet

  • The August 6 and November 19 Universes Beyond sets are dated on Wizards’ timeline but unnamed. Anything claiming what they are is speculation until Wizards announces them.
  • No card lists or mechanics for any of the four named sets beyond what the announcements describe. Everything above is official theme and story, not spoilers.
  • Dates can move. These are official as of this writing, but release dates have shifted before.

Also coming in 2027: starting with Nauctis, Wizards adds God Packs to Magic Multiverse sets (1 in 1,000 Booster Packs, 1 in 300 Collector Boosters), removes foil commons and uncommons from Booster Packs and Collector Boosters, and renames Play Boosters to Booster Packs. Our full breakdown: MTG’s 2027 booster changes and God Packs.

The bottom line

Six dates, four named sets, three planes worth caring about, and a Marvel set doing something genuinely different. 2027 is shaping up well, especially for in-universe fans after a crossover-heavy 2026. Pencil in the dates, watch for the two Universes Beyond reveals, and start the Nauctis savings jar now.
